Solar Blind image intensifier
The strength of solar blind image intensifiers is the unique combination of low noise detection of single UV-C photons below 280 nm at efficiencies up to 30 %, paired with a very strong suppression of light at wavelengths longer than 280 nm.
This behavior allows to record signals in the UV-C band at single photon level, while operating in full daylight.
Such systems are frequently used in missile approach warning systems on military aircraft and vehicles, as well as in high voltage power line inspection systems to visualize and localize corona discharges at daylight.
