Image intensifiers
(Booster Diode Type)

Booster Diodes

Booster diodes are low cost image intensifiers with higher resolution up to 60 lp/mm but lower optical gain.

Typical use cases are the amplification of dark phosphor screen outputs, e.g. at streak tubes, or ns-gated image intensifiers at low lighting conditions.

They can also be used as wavelength converter, e.g. to convert UV to visible light.

Features

Low cost option for image intensification, e.g. of phosphor screens excited by fast transient phenomena.

Applications

  • Post amplifier for gated image intensifiers
  • Amplification of phosphor screen output
  • UV imaging and detection

Configuration parameters

  • photocathode: from 200 to 800 nm (different types for optimal QE and SNR)
  • input window: quarz, fiberoptic
  • Active diameter: 25 mm, 40 mm
  • power supply: integrated or separate
  • Output window: clear glass or fiberoptic
  • Output phosphor screen: P43, P46 or P47 – for optimized efficiency and decay characteristic
